I spent a much bigger part of the day than I’d expected doing an interview on KPFA. It’s what they call an evergreen, and will be held until they need to fill time on Up Front, their morning show.

I took BART up to Berkeley from Union City. As usual most of the people on the train were on one device or another. Having recently written a piece about the future of smart device theft, I’m a lot more aware of the degree to which people make themselves robbery targets by focusing on their screens, and ignoring their surroundings.

Once I was in Berkeley, I headed to the KPFA studio, which is just a couple blocks from the Berkeley BART.

The KPFA studio is surprisingly nice, and we recorded about 40 minutes of tape. I assume what broadcasts will be the usual 7 minutes between news and local community announcements, but we’ll see.

After, I stopped at a cafe nearby called Bittersweet, which was really great.

On the way back, though, BART broke down, and I spent about 40 minutes stucky in Bay City, one of those places in the East Bay that, despite being born and raised here, I had never heard of. Eventually, the trains got to running again, and I made it back to Union City and my car, and headed back home.
