Iceland is getting a ton of coverage for its implementation of a shorter workweek for public sector workers, but it’s worth noting that a lot of other countries are “fast followers,” as they say in the innovation game, exploring ways of supporting trials of shorter workweeks, or moving public sector workers to a shorter week. Just in the last year I’ve seen this happening in:
- Chile
- Japan (LDP proposals)
- India
- Korea (Seoul mayoral elections)
- Malaysia and Singapore
- Spain
- US municipalities: Morgantown WV, Jefferson County, Colorado, among others
And of course, there’s the 4-Day Week Campaign, which is spreading the word about a shorter week, and aims to give policymakers tools to design more trials.
